Cape Verde was first discovered in 1460 by a Portuguese explorer called Antonio Da Noli. The two main islands are Sal and Boa Vista.
Sal island is one of the most developed for tourism, with Santa Maria being the most visited. Santa Maria has a beautiful white sandy beach with crystal clear blue water. Perfect for relaxing by or for water sport enthusiasts. Santa Maria’s lovely town centre consists of bars, restaurants and shops, with live Cape Verdean music playing in most bars.
Sal island is rapidly becoming one of the most popular destinations for water sports and sun worshippers.
Boa Vista has one the largest beaches, at 18km, in the Cape Verde islands. The international airport was completed in 2006 to allow direct flights to the Boa Vista island.
Boa Vista has a beautiful sandy beach and crystal clear waters, like Sal, making it popular for fishing, diving and wind surfing.
Sa Rei is the capital of Boa Vista. It has a pretty central square with bars, shops and restaurants, which serves some of the best lobster around the world.
Sa Rei has three main beaches. Caloral beach, where most of the new developments are going up. Estoril beach, which has a wind surfing centre and superb bars, and then Praia Diante which is next to the harbour.
